Experience

Mountains

I first started working in the outdoors in 1988 at Outward Bound in Scotland. After that I spent one year at Glenmore Lodge on their "night watch scheme" which is a training scheme for outdoor instructors.

In Scotland I have been working as an Avalanche Forecasted in the Ben Nevis area for the past 18 winters. During that time I have walked, climber and guided in most of the mountain areas in Scotland

In Europe I have spent many a happy week walking, skiing and ski touring. I have led a variety of commercial treks in the French Alps, Corsica, the Pyrenees and the Bernesse Oberland.

Further a field, I have guided on over 20 commercial climbing expeditions to Nepal, Pakistan, India, Russia and Ecuador.
In Nepal I have guided on Naya Kanga, Paldor, Ramdung, Island Peak (twice) Mera Peak (four times), Lobuche and Pokalde. I have also crossed the Migbo La and the Amphu Labsta.
In Pakistan I have crossed the Gondoro La (twice) and crossed Snow Lake and the Hispa La (twice) as well as exploring the Hushe Valley and Gondoro Peak.

Sea

Although I spent my younger years racing fast dinghies, for the past 10 years I have been sailing off the west coast. I ran my own charter company for a couple of years and now skipper a variety of vessels including gaff rig, marine research and yachts.

Recently I have been involved with establishing a new sailing club in Arisaig where I will be involved with training.

Mountain Biking

Having been biking round Lochaber for many years, I have a good knowledge of the good local bike tracks and routes.
